Performing in complete darkness, award-winning European jazz trio Phronesis explore our sensory relationship with music, looking at how musical perception can change according to the absence of one of our senses.
Phronesis premiered this extraordinary project to a sold-out house at Brecon Jazz Festival in August, 2011. The concert was described in a 5-star review in the Telegraph as a ‘unique, unmissable triumph’. Subsequent performances have included a sold-out concert at the South Bank Centre as part of the London Jazz Festival and Sendesaal in Bremen, Germany. In 2012, Phronesis were awarded the London Jazz Award for their Pitch Black project at the London Awards for Art and Performance.
“Look out for Phronesis. They might change your life!” – Sean Rafferty, BBC Radio 3
Formed by Danish bass player Jasper Høiby in 2005, with British pianist Ivo Neame and Swedish drummer Anton Eger, Phronesis were nominated in 2010 for 'Best Jazz Act' at the MOBO Awards and their third album Alive was voted 'Jazz Album of the Year' by both MOJO and Jazzwise magazines. They have since taken their depth-charge bass grooves, lyrical melodies and dramatic interplay to major jazz festivals across the world.
