Dear Friends,

We would like to remind all those potential future bee-keepers to consider joining us for this week’s beekeeping workshop here in Floyd, VA.

Throughout the year we meet many people who are inspired to become backyard beekeepers and want to explore beekeeping practices that support the vitality and health of the Honeybee.
As with any other thing we learn and do in life, there are many very important things to consider and learn when deciding to work with bees.

This workshop is a unique opportunity to learn what you need to know to start and also to ask all questions you have.

Due to our intense involvement with other projects and activities involved with teaching and building up a Sanctuary, we can do this beginner workshop only once a year.

Please share this opportunity with friends that may have interest in becoming a beekeeper.

The future of the Honeybee’s survival will depend on many devoted and committed small-scale beekeepers.

Getting Started: First Steps in Beekeeping

This workshop will offer practical advice for those who want to have bees and for those who had bees and want to start again.

Beekeeping is like all of animal husbandry: it is a science and an art. This workshop will give you ample information not only about how to get started, but also a basic understanding of what is involved in today's beekeeping that will allow you to make decisions that are right for you in your personal situation: which hive type would be best for you, what tools are needed, what is important for the bees' health, where to get bees and what to do initially when you get them.
