New Chairman - Emma Koch

Due to Increasing workload pressures Tammy Whitehead has unfortunately had to stand down as WiB&RD Chairman but will stay on the board. Tammy has been instrumental in forging alliances with Victorian networks and her insatiable thirst for knowledge has seen our website develop under her stewardship. We thank her for her leadership.
Emma Koch of Redden Bridge Wines has taken over the role.
Emma and her family live and breathe the vines at their Wrattonbully home with the vines managed using Organic and Biological techniques, to ensure the health of her family as well as that of the soil and vines.
Emma continues to be a strong supporter of her community and we look forward to working alongside Emma.
Editor's note - watch out for her profile in coming months - if I can get her to stay in one place long enough - is somewhere in Victoria on a wine trip. My sincere thanks to Tammy love working with her - so many ideas

Award Nominations close 31 May 2013

Are you a leader, an innovator, a mentor, or a dedicated employee making a difference? Have you made a positive contribution to your community in a work or volunteer capacity? If so, it’s time to share your story and earn some recognition for a job well done.

Nominations are open for the 2013 Influential Women in Business Awards, celebrating the many achievements of women who live and work in the Green Triangle region. There are just six weeks left to enter the Awards, which were launched in 2010.

“The application process is incredibly simple; nominees need to answer two questions about their business or role within an organisation, along with their experiences, in no more than 500 words,” says Emma Koch, recently appointed Chairman of Women in Business & Regional Development and owner of Redden Bridge Wines.

Those who enter will be in the running for more than $7000 worth of prizes relating to personal and business development. Categories include Best Small Business (Five and under employees), Best Business (Over five employees), Young Business Woman of the Year (Under 30 years of age), Business Women of the Year and Community Heroine.

Past winners have praised the widespread public recognition and rewards that have stemmed from the Awards, describing them as a terrific networking and promotional opportunity leading to new business opportunities and an increased public profile.

“The Awards are also an ideal platform for career analysis and self-development, business performance evaluation, new business opportunities and network expansion,” says Emma.

Many nominees have gone on to have considerable success at the Advantage SA Regional Awards and Telstra Businesswoman of the Year Awards, with WiB&RD available to provide training opportunities and mentoring assistance to anyone interested in taking that next step.

Member Profile - Emma Wainwright

As a Marriage Celebrant, my goal, on a long to do list (cake, photographer…) is for the bridal couple to know that I am one less thing to worry about.

At eleven, I would go with my parents to Italian weddings. They had well-dressed guests, dancing, flowers, amazing food and stunning brides.

I began training when my day job was working in a juvenile detention. I wanted to be involved in something that was life changing, positive and I loved weddings!

I meet at coffee shops, where we can talk about how the couple met and what they think is important, information that is invaluable when writing and personalising the ceremony.

My four helpful hints for a wedding include:

Book early
Have your original birth certificates, current i.d and (if applicable, divorce papers) handy
Involve friends on the day to act as helpers and
Organise a dress rehearsal with both the celebrant and photographer

Family Law Article from Andersons Solicitors

Can my children’s school stop the other parent from picking the children up?

Often a parent will be concerned about sending their children to school where there is a dispute over the childrens' living arrangements.

This is a common problem following separation.

What if there are no Court Orders in place?
Where there are no court orders in place, each parent has the same rights and responsibilities in relation to a child by virtue of the fact that they are a parent of that child.

That means that both parents are entitled to collect the children from school. The school does not have any power to refuse either parent unless it is provided with evidence of a court order setting out the arrangements for the children.

What can I do to sort out who picks up the children from school?
A parent who is concerned about the other parent collecting the children from school without their knowledge or consent should immediately meet with the principal of their child’s school to advise the school of the current circumstances and any concerns they have about the other parent.

If the other parent then attends at the school to remove the child the school should attempt to make contact with the other parent to ascertain his or her views prior to the child being removed.

What formal options are open to me for picking up the children from school?
It is strongly recommended that a parenting plan or court order be obtained as soon as possible after separation. The order or parenting plan will give guidance to schools as to who can and cannot collect the children on any particular day.

A school can therefore refuse to allow a parent to take a child home if it appears to be contrary to the court orders or parenting plan.

Should you be experiencing similar issues and think you may benefit from a parenting plan or court order with regard to your children or you have any other concerns about family law matters, get in touch with today’s article writer, Andersons Family Law solicitor, Nicole Kelly or for direct assistance out of our Mt Gambier office, contact Partner in Family Law, Ryan Thomas on 8723 4000.
