Mia and Mya's Story of Hope - Foster Homes Needed!

A Pathway to Hope recently contacted a shelter down in South Carolina to rescue a heartworm positive husky. This husky's help had already come and she had been rescued. The shelter manager sent pictures of two sisters in dire need, Mia and Mya.

These two young girls were found tied up, with ropes embedded in their necks. Whoever had tied them up took no consideration to the fact that they were growing pups, who soon would grow too big for these ropes. Mia and Mya were found just in time. The ropes had become embedded into their skin and was nearly strangling them. Their tracheas were compressed making them at high risk for pneumonia. Both girls came down with a severe case, Mya's in over 40% of her lungs.

Originally thought to be around 4 months old, we soon learned that these girls are nearly 10 months old. Due to abuse and neglect, they were underweight and had appeared to be young puppies. They first cowered when humans came near as they had not known a gentle pet or a loving hug.

Mia and Mya will be making their way to New Jersey on November 20th. They are in need of foster homes. We do plan to separate them, but would be open to keeping them together if a foster can take both. Mia and Mya have been in a foster home in South Carolina where they are recovering from pneumonia and learning how to trust humans again. They've come a long way and are ready to find their forever homes and be loved. Mia and Mya are still in need of foster homes, especially for November 20th - 28th. Please let us know if you can help by emailing us at pathwaytohope@yahoo.com.

Thank you for caring and supporting the work that we do. We don't ever have an easy case it seems, but thanks to our amazing family of supporters, we can continue to do what we do...no matter how challenging it is to take the dogs that most others overlook or turn away from...

Buck

Meet Buck!

He is a super sweet, active and energetic puppy. Buck is now about 7 months old and has a beautiful soft white coat. He is fostered in a home with several other dogs. He loves to play and is good with other dogs. Buck has been fine around cats, and if anything seems to back down to them. He does well with children and likes to play, play, play. This sweet boy is the last of his litter, and waiting patiently for his forever home.

Buck was pushed out of a truck and left on the side of the road in NC, with two of his sisters. They were brought to a local husky rescue, and transported north to Pathway a few weeks later.

Sephora

Sephora is now living the good life! Recently adopted, Sephora has quickly adjusted to her new home. She enjoys going running with her owners, playing in the snow and hanging out with her "cousin" Izzy! Her favorite spot is by the sliding glass door so she can stare out and watch all the deer in the backyard.

Ways to Help

Fostering a dog or cat in need - A Home for the Holidays

Our biggest limitation to rescuing more animals is foster homes. Please consider fostering Mya, Mia or another rescue in need and giving them what they yearn for - home for the holidays. They so deserve the love of a family, whether a foster or a forever home.

Pathway pays all vetting expenses (typically at our vet), including monthly preventatives, and can offer food and supplies as needed. Please consider being a foster, and saving a life...

To My Foster...

There I sat, alone and afraid,
You got a call and came right to my aid.
You bundled me up with blankets and love.
And, when I needed it most, you gave me a hug.

I learned that the world was not all that scary and cold.
That sometimes there is someone to have and to hold.
You taught me what love is, you helped me to mend.
You loved me and healed me and became my first friend.

And just when I thought you'd done all you do,
There came along not one new lesson, but two.
First you said, "Sweetheart, you're ready to go.
I've done all I can, and you've learned all I know."

Then you bundled me up with a blanket and kiss.
Along came a new family, they even have kids!
They took me to their home, forever to stay.
At first I thought you sent me away.

Then that second lesson became perfectly clear.
No matter how far, you will always be near.
And so, Foster Mom, you know I've moved on.
I have a new home, with toys and a lawn.

But I'll never forget what I learned that first day.
You never really give your fosters away.
You gave me these thoughts to remember you by.
We may never meet again, and now I know why.

You'll remember I lived with you for a time.
I may not be yours, but you'll always be mine.
