Summer came and went in the blink of an eye and it was quite hectic with all of the soccer tournaments and camps. Thankfully we were able to spend a week at the beach where we celebrated Ian's 13th birthday. If you're looking for a family-friendly place to stay try Panama City Beach in Florida. It's just west of Panama City and about 30 minutes east of Destin. Be sure to visit Pier Park for lots of restaurants and shopping!

But now school is back in session and the house is quiet again. Frankly, I'd rather have the kids here, but you can't keep them home forever! I've picked up several new clients over the summer and can't wait to share their projects with you.

On The Boards

The Wesson Residence

This family purchased a beautiful, over-sized lot which is bordered by a creek and has quite a few large trees on it. Although the initial design was started by another designer this client came to me looking for a pair of fresh eyes to complete the project. The facade has the feel of a Southern plantation house with the large columns, the series of French doors, and louvered shutters. The inside offers a home that is perfect for today's living with the main public rooms open to each other. The clients and I are still working on the floor plan but only have a few more adjustments to make and then it'll be finished.

3940 Wentwood - Parc Chateau Homes

This home was designed for Parc Chateau Homes in University Park, and has 5,858 square feet of living space. Situated close to the SMU campus most properties in the area still tend to have areas for formal entertaining, and the master bedrooms are often located on the upper level.

The home features four bedrooms, a study/library, wet bar with wine cooler, a game room which could easily convert to a fifth bedroom, and an attic level media room. There is also ample storage in the large pantry, and both the main and upper levels have plenty of air conditioned storage which is located beneath the rear staircase and adjacent to the master sitting room.

The master suite has a private terrace, sitting room, large walk-in closet, and a simple yet elegant bathroom. There's also a home office for the kids, and the large laundry room is conveniently located in close proximity to the bedrooms. The rear staircase takes you up to the attic level where family and guests can be entertained in the media room.

Fall Landscape Tips

This month is an ideal time for fall fertilization as well as weed pre-emergent application. If you're planning on over seeding for the winter the last two weeks of September is a good time to scalp the Bermuda and spread the Rye. Not only will this provide you a green lawn in the winter but it also helps to prevent the spread of weed grasses; if you have active outside dogs this will also help keep you from having bare and muddy patches by the end of winter.

In the next couple of weeks many stores will be getting their annual spring bulbs in. If you purchase them now be sure and keep them chilled until it's time to plant them later in November. Planting tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths during November will make for beautiful spring time beds. Add mulch to your flower beds in preparation for colder weather and be sure to keep some extra handy in case of late fall cold snaps.
