Here's to the bright New Year, and a fond farewell to the old; Here's to the things that are yet to come, and to the memories that we hold.

2014

We all know New Year's Resolutions are soon forgotten. Instead of making a grand resolution, that's next to impossible to keep, why don't you make a promise to yourself to do something kind every day?

This act of kindness could be something for yourself, like eating clean, getting a little bit more exercise, or taking 10 minutes out of your day to meditate. It could be an act of kindness toward someone else, like holding the door, assisting with carrying groceries, or paying for a cup of coffee for the person behind you in line.

"No kind action ever stops with itself. One kind action leads to another. Good example is followed. A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves." ~ Amelia Earhart

There must be quite a few things that a hot bath won't cure, but I don't know many of them.

“In times of stress, the best thing we can do for each other is to listen with our ears and our hearts and to be assured that our questions are just as important as our answers.”
― Fred Rogers, The World According to Mister Rogers: Important Things to Remember

Give stress a 1, 2, 3 knockout! Take control in 2014 with a little relaxing time for yourself:

1) Draw a warm bath and light an Aveda candle. Add 1-2 tablespoons of Stress-Fix soaking salts. Soak in the tub with your eyes closed and take a deep breath. You can also perform the "bumble bee breath" by slowing exhaling as you make a buzzing "Mmm" sound. Repeat the breathing exercise of your choice gently for two to five minutes.

2) After bath: massage Stress-Fix body lotion into your hands, hold them under your nose and take a deep breath. Then massage onto tense areas such as the neck, shoulders and forearms using the Ayurvedic technique of moving in circular at the joints and back-and-forth motions in-between joints. Apply to your abdomen using clockwise circular motions.

3) Apply Stress-Fix concentrate to the inside of your wrists, hold over your nose and take a deep breath.
Massage Stress-Fix concentrate onto the occipital area at the top of your neck using circular motions.
Release shoulder tension by rolling Stress-Fix concentrate onto your upper shoulders with a press-release motion. Shrug your shoulders to your ears, hold, and then let them drop. Repeat as desired.

A tip from our Aveda Pro, Sallie!

Spice up your Ponytail

For a quick and chic hairstyle throw your hair up in a traditional ponytail. Rub a small amount of Aveda Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener in your hands to smooth and slick back your hair. Take a chunk of hair from the underside of the ponytail and braid it. Once braided, wrap it around the base of the ponytail covering the hair band. Pin the ends of the braided hair to the base of the pony and voila! A sophisticated twist to your average ponytail.

Have a Fabulous hair day!
