In a few days, we are sending a 6-person team from the Back to Life walk to an international intersection where human trafficking and abortion meet.
Phnom Penh, Cambodia, is a hub of slavery, where women and children are bought and sold for sex and forced to work in inhumane conditions. It is also a place where abortion runs rampant and is largely uncontested. Abortion is wiping out many of the youngest, most vulnerable generation, while they are still in the womb. Abortion is so much a norm in the culture, that church and community leaders often drive women to abortion clinics, thinking that they are being helpful. All of this has lead to trauma upon trauma for many women and children in Cambodia.
Over the past years we have been working with XP Missions on the ground there to fight human trafficking. This past fall they reached out to us asking if we would help them take the fight up a level to also focus on the atrocity of abortion. This is why we are sending this team.
For two weeks, our team will work with our friends at XP Missions to help victims of human trafficking who are pregnant and considering abortion by building a pregnancy care centre, working with community and church leaders to find life-giving ways to support these women and children, and we will spend time in the poorest neighbourhoods where children are most at risk. There are women there who have found the courage to speak up, and the team will interview and document their stories, so that their voices will be heard.
