Hi there! This week, I downloaded the new OneNote for Mac* to compare it to Evernote (research you know). And remember how I said we were losing tabs on our Facebook Pages? Well, they're back, just in a different spot.

1. How to delete your unused accounts

If you're like me, you've opened accounts for all sorts of services online, everything from Facebook to that obscure calendar site that sounded great at the time. But how do you delete them if you no longer want them? Use Just Delete Me. They'll link you right to the page you need to delete your account. They'll also tell you how easy or impossible it is to do (yes, it's impossible to delete your account on some services). Click the "Show info..." link for any service to get special hints or tips. Handy.

Bonus tip: Many of you have mentioned Unroll.Me as a way to get yourself off unwanted mailing lists. I've tried it and have found that it works, not spectacularly, but it does work well enough.

2. Free background texture tool, with color!

Smashing Mag led me to this texture pattern maker thingy (that's the technical term) called Transparent Textures that you can use to create cool backgrounds and textures. My video tutorial, How to Change Your WordPress Background will give you an idea of how to use it. I mention in the video that I like Subtle Patterns, but this one is nice because you can inject color right in!

3. Where to find special characters not on your keyboard

You may have noticed I've been experimenting with a little checkmark in my subject line for this useletter. The result is this:

✔ Useletter: How to...

The goal is to it make my useletter easily identifiable and to grab attention when it lands in inboxes (without getting caught in spam, that is). Getting the checkmark was simple. I just copied & pasted it in the subject line. Here's a place where you can copy and paste a whole lot of special characters to use in your email subject lines or other projects.

4. How to find similar sites and get out of a rut

In my post 7 Tips for Commenting on Blogs I mentioned the importance of not getting stuck in a blog-reading rut. I offer some ways to find new blogs to read, but there's a Chrome extension called Google Similar Pages that makes this a cinch. Install the extension, go to your favorite blog, click the icon and find similar blogs. If you don't use Chrome, try SimilarSites.com.

5. In case you missed it...

Remember that tip last week about not putting Amazon Associates links in emails? Well, it gets worse. I also updated my post with instructions for downloading your FeedBurner email subscribers. It's a good idea to do that on a regular basis just in case FeedBurner has any major hiccups. Which has been known to happen.
