Dear St. Andrew's Families,

If you were here last weekend you may still be exhausted, but basking in the glow of the remarkable student body. We did our best to capture the events on our Livestream channel, but we also have photos and Janice Nevin's Chapel Talk in case you missed it. Thank you all for the energy and enthusiasm you brought to the weekend.

This weekend, the V Form will carry the tradition of putting on the annual Maui Wowie dance on the Front Lawn. The day will feature contests like potato sack racing and inflatable jousting; there will be a cardboard boat race, and a few teachers will be climbing into a dunk tank. Please email Will Speers to encourage him to volunteer.

We had some sad news this week with the passing of Carol Simendinger. Carol was born and spent her life on her family farm a short walk through the fields from Founders Hall where her high school sweetheart and husband Gary still tills the land. She was a graduate of the University of Delaware and was an invaluable member of the business office for 33 years. We will celebrate her life on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the A. Felix duPont, Jr. Memorial Chapel. All are welcome.

All the best,
Will Robinson '97

Sam Fox '14 Reviews Antifragile by Nassim Taleb

Students often volunteer to review books for The Irene duPont Library's blog. Sam Fox '12 took a turn this week reviewing Antifragile by Nassim Taleb. Sam summarizes Taleb's central argument as "rejecting the notion that anything can be reliably predicted, and that the best course of action is not to act on predictions but to prepare to benefit from all possibilities." You can read his full analysis and find other reviews here.

Stotesbury, State Tournament Update

The rowing teams are in Philadelphia competing at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta today and (hopefully) tomorrow. The girls lacrosse team scraped and fought their way back from a 6-1 deficit to beat Tatnall in overtime and make the 8-team state tournament. They will play #1 seed Cape Henlopen on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cape. The #2-ranked boys tennis team and girls tennis team will also compete in the state tournament starting on Saturday. You can find the brackets here.

Countdown to the Countdown

There is still quite a bit of work to finish the year and end their St. Andrew's careers on a strong note, but the senior class is starting to show signs of celebration. The picture is a little foggy, but the smiling faces on the right are a result of the Oreo blizzards from Dairy Queen that awaited them after Wednesday Chapel in the Admissions Common Room. Classes end next week followed by Arbor Day, and finally, Awards Night and Commencement.

A St. Andrew's Moment — The Painting Train

I had no idea what this was when I took the picture through my office window earlier this week. Mollie Gillespie '13 (fourth in line) explains: "It's the painting train. Every Tuesday and Friday the wonderful students of Mr. McGiff's painting class form a train that departs break in the Dining Hall and chug-chug-chugs to the painting studio in the Arts Center. I don't remember why we do this, but it happens every week."
