HAPPY NEW YEAR ... and may it be a very creative one.

Christmas seems long gone, but it has only been 2 weeks!
I managed to have time off from my usual schedule. It was great. I even did some sewing including curtains in the Studio, some Minion cushions, and a new dress for Christmas.

On the days it wasn't ridiculously hot, I sorted my fabric stash thereby giving the room over the teenagers as a gaming space. The Studio still needs to sorted as a lot of stuff got put there in the process. However I now know what fabrics I have - all sorted into large labelled crates, bottom weight, shirt weigh, kids, lycra and lingerie, costumes, dress lengths, silk, satins and linings, knits and fleece. It will be a lot easier to go shopping in my own boxes now.

I've also created a scrap draw which you are welcome to use when you need that little bit extra to finish your project.

I have been teaching for over 10 years, and in that time my prices have not changed. So I'm afraid it's time to raise the cost of classes just a little. Hope this still works for you. Regular classes will be going up by $5. Workshops will still be priced according to the requirements and necessities of each.

Scenic Blinds (my other hat) started back this week, but I must admit it has been a bit difficult getting going when the rest of the house is still on holidays.

This weekend will be full of visitors and classes start back on Thursday next week.
Then it's time to get school books organised, do a couple of fun things, catch up with a few people and BANG we're back in the rat race.

Hope you've managed to catch up on what ever needed doing and are rested and ready to sew the year away.

This Term I have a couple of Tutors for you, as well as the usual offerings.
I haven't worked out how to attach the calender, so I will send it separately.

Feel free to forward this newsletter to anyone you know who might be interested in classes or embroidery.

NEW DAY & EVENING CLASSES
Wednesdays commencing Feb 12

I would dearly love to offer a Learn To Sew series in these time slots, though I have found most ladies prefer to attend General Sewing classes and work on their own projects with my assistance.
I believe you will learn better basic skills and understanding by completing the course and then build upon them by continuing with casual classes where you can work on projects of your choosing.

LEARN TO SEW - For Beginner or Refresher Sewers
(6 lessons x 3 hours
Followed by casual ongoing classes)

Tuition and basic kit $195
Students will need to supply own materials and pattern for pyjamas. Details will be advised at first lesson.

This course enables beginner or refresher students to start reference samples & sew a pair of pyjamas featuring a collared shirt and elastic waist boxer shorts. Techniques covered may include hems, seams, zips, gathering, buttons and buttonholes, corners and curves, basic stitches, collars, pockets, sleeves, elastic casing, & patch pockets. Students will also learn about the use and care of your machine, the importance of quality, needles, threads, fabric choices, selecting the correct pattern size, anatomy of patterns, and basic pattern adjustments. During class students will also learn to use an Overlocker for basic overcasting.
Students will need to bring their own sewing machine and supplies. Details available upon registration.

Daytime and Evening courses are available
(6 x 3hours)
Students must be able to attend all classes.
Due to the format of the course catchup classes can not be offered.

If either of these ideas interest you, please give me a call.

Australian Sewing Guild

I have added the meeting dates to the calender for the Guild Groups in the Gold Coast Hinterland Region. There is one Group in Beaudesert, and three Groups who meet on the Gold Coast. There are a great opportunity to meet with like minded ladies and enjoy sewing in many forms. The Scenic Sewers in Beaudesert churn out a variety of things including garments, patchwork and quilts, charity items (including placemats, baby gowns & blankets, post masectomy bags, nurses gowns) costumes, gifts, mug bags, and much more. We have visiting tutors and shopping tours, industry days and generally share our knowledge and enjoyment of sewing.
Anyone who is interested in the Guild is welcome to come along to two meetings before joining. Heads up, there is usually a joining offer in February so that you get 14 months membership for the price of a year.
Have a look at the website www.aussew.org.au, we'd love to have you.

At the Craft Show in Brisbane (March 20-23), the Guild will be presenting daily fashion parades featuring members work. This is a very exciting opportunity to showcase the skills of ladies in the Guild and introduce ASG to prospective members. So if you make it to the Show, don't forget to stop and watch. I'll be there.
