We here at Deep Thinka Records are super stoked that the world didn’t end last week because 2013 - our 16th year in operation - is going to be one for the ages!

For the New Year...

New Territory!

First off, we’re excited to announce that we'll be spreading both the love and the vinyl overseas via a new international partnership with Planetworks Enterprises, a worldwide sales and distribution company that specializes in bringing the work of independent labels to eager overseas fans.

New Albums & New Angles!

And fans both here and abroad can expect some pinnacle albums in 2013 including (but not limited to) the much anticipated Gettin’ Gatsby’d by Mad Dukez with super-producer Fresh Kils. This is more than just a rap record; much like the album’s namesake, it is a seminal endeavor that applies complex narrative to cohesive themes. The dynamic duo's five track prequel EP, Monsters is available now for only $2.99

The Breadmakerz

Polish producer Deft Aphid and Brooklyn emcee Loki da Trixta form international sensation, The Breadmakerz, and they are baking up their debut album, Bridge to the Stars. The album is almost ready and this Eastern-European Dub Step / Glitch-Hop / Electronic masterpiece includes tons of surprise cameos hidden in it.... and yes, it does require that many descriptives. Give their earlier work a listen and you’ll see what we mean.

Keeping the international flavor flowing, another hot commodity is our Canadian pride and joy Atherton, whose hugely successful album No Threat took over the top slots on the College Radio Charts in both the USA and Canada. Now, No Threat has been licensed by MTV and Discovery for programming usage, so be sure to keep your ears open the next time you see Snooki spouting about something stupid on your TV, you might just hear Atherton in the background!

At the demand of his fans, we will be pressing Coolzey’s debut album, The Honey, to limited edition 12” vinyl. The CD version of the album - which features guests appearances from Sadat X, Raashan Ahmad and Copywrite - sold out very quickly, so we'll be bringing it back in the most genuine of all musical media: the phonographic record. Stay tuned on this because once we press them, they’ll be gone.

New Artists & New Events!

Even with all this international buzz happening, we’re still keeping our roots underground with the signings of new local acts such as Frigid Giant; and with a new weekly Wednesday night event called Talkin’ Plowed, a multi-genre (punk, hip hop, zydeco - you name it) DJ night with drink specials and lots of Buffalo pride.

And keeping our roots in the ground means giving back too. As a follow up to our hugely successful 2012 fundraisers, Being B.I.G. and Being Beastie, we proudly present Doin’ Dilla. Going down at DBGB in Buffalo on February 8th, Doin' Dilla will benefit the J. Dilla Foundation, which helps to fund inner-city music programs and provides scholarships for students to attend schools with progressive music curricula. Look for the invite as we plan on spinning and performing some of the prolific Jay Dee’s finest collaborations like Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, Common, Janet Jackson and much more.

More info on Frigid Giant, Talkin' Plowed and Doin' Dilla to come, so stay tuned.

New Showcasing!

In addition to all this action on the home front, we've got several acts hitting the road: Coolzey and Raashan Ahmad will be on the road February and March; Mad Dukez and Fresh Kils are now booking their Spring and Fall tours, and The Breadmakerz and Frigid Giant have tours in the works as well. Email us for info on bringing any of these acts to your town.

Additionally, we'll be fully representing the festival circuit this year, starting with a showcase at SXSW in March. Look for us and let us know where you’ll be: we want to meet up, share stories, have a few drinks, and then write it all off on our taxes.
