Hello !!
Balancing Rock was one of many amazing sights on our National Parks tour of Utah last fall. It may stay balanced for a long, long time or . . . it may tumble down tomorrow! Since much of my teaching this month relates to balance, I've been paying attention to balance in nature as well as in my own movement. Sometimes we are balanced in an less stable situation, like Balancing Rock. And sometimes we begin to lose balance and need to get more stability, an ability we can all improve. We commonly think of balance as decreasing with age and it is often seen as a "test" of our functional age. I invite you this month to check your functional age and then see what you might do to reverse the clock a little!

Change Your Age!

Change Your Age

Many of us don't feel our chronological age--we may feel younger--or older, and we may move as if we were in fact younger or older. My colleague Frank Wildman, a noted Feldenkrais® Practitioner and Trainer, is the author of Change Your Age, a recent book that includes a variety of movement lessons based on Awareness Through Movement®. Frank has also developed a website allowing individuals to measure functional age, based on answers to questions related to movement habits and levels of comfort. It can be instructive to see where we are. Here's the website for the Change Your Age Mobility Survey.

But don't stop there! Commit yourself to either change or maintain your functional age by learning and practicing new movement habits. And if you want to work on balance, coordination, flexibility, upright posture and ease of movement, check out one of the classes below. I regularly draw inspiration for the classes I teach from the Change Your Age Program. To get a taste of this kind of learning, check out some excerpts of the Change Your Age lessons.
