Cal Beta Online Newsletter - March 2014

Spring 2014 Newly Initiated Members

Rush ended in early February and we are pleased to announce that we have initiated six new members into our chapter. We are very pleased with this group and excited to welcome them into the brotherhood.

JonathanBobrovitch

Jonathan Bobrovitch
Jonathan is a freshman from Moraga. He is undecided as far as his major goes, but he intends to pursue something involving STEM research. He is on the NCAA gymnastics team. He spends his free time playing and watching a range of sports, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family.

PrestonLee

Preston Lee
Preston is an undeclared freshman from Newport Beach. He is on the varsity water polo team. Preston calls himself an "avid waterman," enjoying time at the beach, surfing, bodysurfing, and any other water sports he has the chance to try out. When he isn't at the beach or water polo practice he enjoys reading and playing the guitar.

LuisMorales

Luis Morales
Luis is a sophomore double majoring in Computer Science and Physics. In his spare time he does nuclear physics research on campus with a group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Luis's family is originally from Puerto Rico but he was born in Freehold, NJ and later moved to Raleigh, NC. After graduation, he plans to pursue an advanced degree in physics and/or work as a software engineer at a large tech company. In his free time he follows the NHL (favorite team being the New Jersey Devils) and plays street/ice hockey. He travels as much as he can and enjoys rock climbing and hiking.

JayProber

Jay Prober
Jay is a Junior transfer majoring in Anthropology. He transferred from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. After he graduates he wants to attend graduate school in either history or public policy. He played football and baseball at his high school Ernest Righetti High in Santa Maria, CA. Jay also volunteered as an assistant football coach. When he isn't pursuing academics, he enjoys reading, watching sports, and listening to music. He takes pride in maintaining close relationships with his family and friends.

MitchReid

Mitch Reid
Mitch is a Junior transfer studying Economics. He is originally from Lakeland, MN. Before he transferred to Berkeley in the fall, he attended Santa Barbara City College for a semester and Santa Monica College for three semesters. After he graduates his goal is to find a job in either the finance or entertainment industries. He eventually would like to pursue an MBA. While at Stillwater Area High School in Minnesota he played varsity tennis for three years. In his free time he enjoys hiking, going to the gym, and watching movies.

TylerSimkins

Tyler Simkins
Tyler is a Junior and is on the mens varsity soccer team. When he graduates he plans to pursue either a professional soccer career or go into commercial real estate financing. He attended J Serra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, CA and played three years of varsity golf. In his free time, Tyler stays active playing golf, ice hockey, snowboarding, and deep sea fishing.

Spring 2014 Senior Dinner and Hall of Fame Ceremony

On Friday, April 11th, we will be holding our annual spring Senior Dinner and Hall of Fame ceremony at the chapter house. Congratulations to John Williams '71 and Richard Lyons '79 as both will be inducted into the Cal Beta Hall of Fame. Click Here to read their biographies.

The 17 brothers listed below will be graduating in May:

Tommy Adams: Tommy is graduating with a double major in Economics and Statistics and is currently looking for work in San Francisco.

Andrew Dunlap: Andrew is graduating with a degree in Political Science and a minor in political economy. He will be moving back to Southern California to do commercial real estate until he applies to law school.

Jeremy Fiance: Jeremy will be graduating with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and will be pursuing his mobile healthcare startup Dropsense at the Berkeley Incubator Skydeck.

Alexander Kutsukos: Alex is graduating with a Business degree and will begin working at Deloitte.

Matthew Lavine: Matt is graduating with a degree in Environmental Economics and Policy and is currently looking for a full time job in San Francisco.

Max Lightbourn: Max is graduating with a degree in International Relations and a minor in Rhetoric. He will be attending law school.

Matthew McGlynn: Matt is graduating with a degree in Economics and is currently interviewing for a consulting job in San Francisco.

Tanner Mohr: Tanner will be graduating with a degree in History and will be working at Oracle.

Spencer Murphy: Spencer is graduating with a degree in Environmental Economics and Policy. He plans to pursue a career in either wealth management or tech sales.

Zack Purdy: Zack is graduating with a degree in Environmental Economics and Policy. He is working as a part-time site analyst at a startup called Green Planet 21. He also plans to pursue a career in acting.

Harrison Rolfes: Harrison is graduating with a degree in Applied Mathematics and a minor in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR). He plans to work in management consulting for a few years then pursue a Masters degree at USC in Systems Engineering.

Matt Rude: Matt is graduating with a degree in Business Administration and will be working as a forensic accountant at PwC in San Francisco.

Chad Smith: Chad is graduating with a degree in Business Administration and will be pursuing a career in finance in San Francisco.

Matthew Thorson: Matthew is graduating with a degree in Environmental Economics and Policy and will be a pursuing a tech career in San Francisco.

Jason Ungar: Jason is graduating with a degree in Economics and plans to become a professional poker player.

Adonis Voulgaris: Adonis is graduating with a degree in English major and is planning to work in tech sales in San Francisco.

Eric Wieser: Eric is graduating with a degree in Environmental Economics and Policy and a minor in Spanish. He will be traveling this fall and plans to pursue advanced degree(s) in either Economics or Environmental Policy.
