Blues Train Radio newsletter - May 28th.

Firstly, apologies for the lack of recent newsletters - as always, my playlists are available via my blog a few days after each show anyway via Playlists - which is due to be fully updated this week.

My most recent show was a very special one, as I was joined for the whole hour by JO HARMAN ( website ) who is one of THE rising stars in the UK soul and blues scene. Jo chose the playlist of songs that have inspired her, plus we aired three of her own songs, including forthcoming single, Worthy Of Love. We also had a chat about all sorts of things and I feel it made it a very cool and interesting show, so please check it out:

BLUES TRAIN - JO HARMAN SPECIAL - CLICK TO LISTEN

PLAYLIST:
Jo Harman and Company - Through the Night [ CD: Live at Hideaway ]
Foy Vance - be with me [ Hope ]
Mavis Staples - will the circle be unbroken [ Have A Little Faith ]
Jo Harman and Company - Sweet Man Moses w/ Watersign Horns [ Worthy Of Love EP ]
Muddy Waters - I just wanna make love to you [ Electric Mud ]
Solomon Burke - don't give up on me [ Don't Give Up On Me ]
Etta James - Somethings Got A Hold On Me [ Somethings Got A Hold On Me Vol 2 ]
Jo Harman and Company - Worthy Of Love [ Worthy Of Love EP ]

I honestly feel that this format is great and something that I haven't really seen elsewhere yet. Other shows have guests in but rarely let them choose the whole playlist, so I hope you can all support this - and look out for future guests doing the same thing!

NEXT LIVE SHOW - Sunday June 3rd 4.30-5.30pm FromeFM.co.uk

As always, please support what I am doing if you can, not just for me but mainly for the artists themselves, as they all deserve your ears! If any of you can help plug the show on your web pages too, that is always appreciated.

News-Round-Up

Acoustic Spectrum radio launches on June 9th website and as previously mentioned, Blues Train will be part of the schedules. This is an exciting opportunity for me to reach new listeners, so look out for confirmation of the day and time that you can listen. The station is aiming to promote and plug all new and indie artists of all styles, so all you promoters out there, feel free to investigate and get your artists more airplay.

More locally, FromeFM is now airing test transmissions on 96.6FM, with the official launch evening following on June 16th. This will hopefully be the start of a very exciting time for the station and we obviously hope that local people will listen in more regularly once they realise we are here! So again, the possibility for more exposure for the show and the artists will soon be increasing. A whole website rebranding will begin from June as well.

BRITISH BLUES AWARDS NEWS

Firstly, you can see the full list of nominations at the main website - voting will begin from May 31st, so watch out for details on that.
BBA Nominations

Just to confirm, the Blues Train song that went forward to the national vote in the Kevin Thorpe Award was NAVACROSS - DON'T SHOUT. Congratulations to the group and I want to thank Dove and Boweevil, Liam Tarpey Band and Simon McBride for their support during the vote.

BLUES TRAIN IS EVOLVING.....

I don't want to be like the other shows....I want to offer something that no-one is doing...I want to produce a 60 minute mix of blues and roots that is perfect to download to your mp3 player, or to provide a soundtrack while you surf the net. Not everyone has time to listen to a two hour show...however good they are. I want people to download BT every fortnight and know they will be hearing great music, some of which won't be heard on another blues show.

My recent dealings with Acoustic Spectrum, Fatea Showcases, R2 Magazine etc, has opened my ears to great music that isn't straight blues. I feel that by 'just' offering blues every show, I am only limiting myself and limiting my listeners. I can't compete with the big weekly shows, so why try. But they won't be able to offer what I can either!

So from this weekends show, be prepared to go on an adventure! Lets explore some folk, some acoustic, some roots...lets see what happens when we do. I feel my listeners are prepared to expand horizons and many already do. A train can stop at many stations....so book yourself a place on board!

Don't forget! You can subscribe to the show on iTunes, so you will never miss an episode. If you do this, feel free to leave a nice comment and rating :-)
