The HOPE Project - Matching Campaign Update

What a wonderful 2013 we had at Ten Talents International! Together with your support and prayers, we were able to touch the lives of hundreds of women and children throughout Rwanda. Children were fed, cared for, enabled to attend school, provided with necessary supplies, received medical care, tutored, witnessed to, and loved on.

I just recently returned from leading our annual Christmas with the Orphans Mission Trip. It’s remarkable to see the changes happening on a daily basis in the children we continue to serve. A highlight of my trip was seeing the nine girls that have moved into the temporary Home of Purpose thriving!

Last month I told you a little bit about Kevine. Now that Kevine is living at the Home of Purpose and receiving proper nutrition and care, she is much healthier and happier! She has made friends with the other girls living in the home and is now going to school. We were even able to find her a sponsor! Praise the Lord!

Ten Talent International launched The HOPE Project Campaign last November. Since then, we’ve raised over $10,000! We’ve extended the matching gift opportunity until February 15. Please consider a gift of $25, $50, $100 or more to help us reach the entire $20,000 match. The funds raised will go directly to the construction of the first building on The HOPE Project property which will be the Home of Purpose.

We have also created an informational booklet that you can share with your church, friends and family. Please use this to help spread the word about this amazing ministry!

Mission Trip Update

Just last month All God's Children International enabled us to bring together 14 people from all over the United States to join with Mike and our daughter Kelly McColm in Rwanda. The purpose of this trip may seem a bit daunting: in 10 days host five different Christmas parties at different locations and deliver donations for babies, children, fathers and mothers. Our team had been working for months before the trip gathering items to bring with them. There was an amazing amount of donations brought to bless so many people!

There was party for all the sponsored and unsponsored kids in the Ten Talents At-Risk Sponsorship program. The children and their families were provided with a meal, sodas, a set of clothes, shoes, toothbrushes, toothpaste and backpacks full of school supplies. The next party was for the Home of Innocence and the Home of Purpose together. The children in the homes all received a meal and the same donations. The girls from the Home of Purpose danced and sang for the team, which was very special. The homes also received soccer balls, towels, bed sheets, lotion and flip flops. Then the team went to Gisenyi, on the other side of the country, to bless the Noel Orphanage (the largest and oldest orphanage in Rwanda) with clothes, shoes, crib sheets, diapers, and other baby supplies. The team hosted a Christmas party at the Gahanga Disabled Orphanage and they decided to also bless the workers with special care packages. The children and adults living there enjoyed receiving stuffed animals.

The team visited the Rwanda Orphan Project where 100 former street boys now live. Their party included soda, snacks, and lots of play time with the boys! This project received donations of towels and soccer balls.

Our team spent so much time loving on kids and enjoyed being touched by the special hearts of Rwanda. While there the team was also able to visit our new property, The Hope Project, and pray over it. We so appreciate all this team did to bless hundreds of children and families in Rwanda. We would love to have you join us for our next trip in 2014!

Impact Story: Grace

When they were found living in the open market, the 5-year-old boy & girl twins only knew their names to be "Mahungu" and "Makobwa" which simply mean "boy" and "girl" in the Kinyarwanda language. Another Christian ministry with a home for boys had come to bring the boy into their home, but what could they do about his twin sister? Their father had epilepsy and was in and out of the hospital, and their mother's whereabouts were unknown. These two little ones had grown up living on the streets and were now living in the busy, messy, and (for unprotected children) unsafe marketplace. A friend shared the story of this lost little girl with us at Ten Talents, at the same time we were preparing to open a home for girls: the Home of Purpose. We were able to bring this little girl, now named Grace, into this newest home, and just in time. Recently, when Mike and our Christmas mission team had the opportunity to visit with the girls at the Home of Purpose they were all taken with Grace's joy and exuberance. Grace is blossoming in the Home of Purpose and she has a bright future ahead of her, full of purpose, because of it.

Prayer Requests

1. Pray for all the necessary details and permits to come together so we can begin building on The Hope Project.
2. Pray for the remaining funds to come in to be able to complete building on The Hope Project.
3. Pray for the boys in the Home of Innocence and the girls in the Home of Purpose. Pray for God to keep on renewing them from the inside out and to heal every hidden hurt they may have.
4. Pray for wisdom for our staff and leadership to direct the decisions of the ministry in the way that God desires.
