Special Events on the Calendar:

Womens Fellowship/Bible Study - led by Ginny Leonetti, October 12 (10 am). Please remember to RSVP to Ginny via e-mail ginnyleonetti@gmail.com or on 717-721-5657.
Parish workday - at Alice Nugent's house. October 12 and 19th (8am-?). Lunch and all necessary supplies will be provided. I would like to suggest that this would be an excellent family activity - especially for families with older youth! NOTE: I realize that this presents a conflict with the Women's Fellowship that is being started by Ginny Leonetti. I hope that many of you (ladies) will be attending that - please do not come to the work day instead of attending the study! But you are most welcome to join us at her house, after that gathering. Kindly RSVP to Fr. Patterson (jsspatterson@gmail.com) if you are able to come out and help on either of these days.

A private guided tour through historic Laurel Hill Cemetery (founded 1836) has been arranged for St. Mark's Church. All are invited!

The subject of our guide will be the "Ladies of the Civil War." We will go rain or shine.

The details:

(1) Transportation: A 14 passenger bus will leave St Marks church at 1PM. The tour lasts about 2 hours. We will return home after the talk.
(2) Location: Laurel Hill Cemetery is located at 3822 Ridge Ave Phila, Pa 19132.

(3) Cost: $30.00 ($15 for the tour and $15 for the bus). Scholarships are available if needed (speak with Fr. Patterson).

Sue Rodgers is organizing this (thanks Sue!). Please speak with her if you have any questions.

Confirmation and Adult Inquirer's Class

A Confirmation Class (for young adults) will begin in October. Parents should contact Fr. Patterson if they have a young adult to enroll. This class begins with an overview of the "story" of the Bible and then moves on to a study of the Catechism (as found in the 1928 BCP) with a special emphasis upon understanding the Lord's Prayer, The 10 Commandments and the Apostle's Creed. Young Adults must complete this class prior to Confirmation.

An Adult Inquirer's/New Members Class - will also be forming this fall. This class is open to any adult (or young adult) in the parish. This is a required class for any adult who wishes to seek Confirmation (which will take place sometime in the spring) and it is highly recommended for any adult who (already having been Confirmed) is interested in joining St. Marks Church.

In the adult class instruction will be offered on:

the history of the Book of Common Prayer (where did it come from?) and how to make use of it.
The logic and order of Cranmer's service of Holy Communion
An Anglican theology of Worship
"Why do you do that?" (answers to commonly asked questions about our customs and traditions)
The Mission, Vision and Values of St. Mark's Church
A brief overview of the Reformed Episcopal Church and comments upon the state of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
And more . . . .

Exact dates/times for both classes TBD based on the needs/schedule of participants. If you are interested in attending, please contact Fr. Patterson (jsspatterson@gmail.com).
