Dear St. Andrew's Families,
We were thrilled to learn this week that St. Andrew's was named the first school in Delaware and among the first three boarding schools in the country to earn the designation as a Green Ribbon School from the U.S. Department of Education.
The award honors schools for exemplary efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, promote better health and ensure effective environmental education, including civics and green career pathways. You can read our detailed application put together by Director of Sustainability Diana Burk here.
Delaware's DNREC Secretary Collin O'Mara has visited St. Andrew's several times in the past few years, including leading a roundtable discussion with students last fall to learn more about the School's commitment to sustainability. “St. Andrew’s truly walks the talk," O'Mara said. "Over the past few years, they have emerged as a national leader in demonstrating environmental stewardship, reducing one's ecological footprint and inspiring students to create a more sustainable future.
“The U.S. Green Ribbon School award today recognizes what we in Delaware already know — that St. Andrew’s commitment to sustainability is a model that we hope to replicate over and over again.”
We are so thankful to so many on campus and beyond who made this recognition possible, and whose work and dedication suggest we are only at the beginning of our efforts to live more sustainably.
All the best,
