"Helloooo!" It's that time again What time, you ask? It's tiime to start thinking about golf, playing golf, GROWing the game of golf!

In this issue of Women on the GROW (WOG), we spotlight the GROW Golf Committee, the ladies who make the tournament possible each year: Kalthy Buggs, Sylvia Houston-Little, Anita Pearson, LaTasha Thomas, & Donna Wallace. Please also meet and welcome our GROW Communications Intern Shermain Nettles. Shermaine interviews the GROW women and writes articles in prepration for their feature in WOG.

This year should be another phenomenal year! We're planning skills clinics, Lunch & Learns, collegiate lessons, and support of various golf tournaments. The 4th Annual GROW Co-Ed Golf Scramble is underway and Save-the-Date information will be available soon. In the meantime, please send an email to info@growtoday.org if you're interested in joining the committee.

DonnaHaroldKathy

Donna Wallace, State Repesentative Harold Love, Kathy Buggs

Kathy Buggs Kathy works for Congressman Jim Cooper; she has been working with GROW since its conception and has enjoyed every moment since. She has a passion for working with school aged children and college students; she works with them to help cultivate their success. She is able to serve her community through her profession, which gives her great joy. Kathy and her husband are both active golf players, so when Kathy met Tracy and heard about the opportunities available, she jumped right on it. Kathy is grateful for the opportunity to mingle with ladies that also want to get involved in their communities and have a mutual interest in the game of golf. Every year that enrollment is increased; Kathy has become more excited about moving forward and growing with GROW.

Donna Wallace is a native of Mississippi; the sport of basketball brought her to Tennessee. When she learned about GROW she was excited to network and connect with professionals like herself through the game of golf. She was playing golf for three years when she heard of GROW, and since then she has been able to cultivate her technique in the sport and through the support of the organization. The perfection of her golf skills has been sharpened through time on the course; Donna believes that consistent practice on her golf game allows her to be competitive in tournaments. She appreciates the camaraderie that the women of GROW bring to the organization. Learning, growing, and establishing new friendships with these women have played an integral role on and off the golf course. Donna currently works with Delta Airlines and sells promotion marketing products. She loves to travel and continues to play basketball. Donna would like to personally applaud Tracy for her dedication to GROW and for continuing to be a visionary within the sport of golf.

Sylvia

Sylvia Houston-Little with husband Leonard and teammates Tremain Smith & Mark Moore.

Sylvia Houston-Little Sylvia is excited about the expansion of GROW and is happy to see everyone involved get better at their “golf game”; Sylvia believes that Tracy’s dedication to the sport of golf and to the GROW organization as a whole is the driving force behind its success. The great women that support Tracy in her endeavors serve as the pillars of GROW. Sylvia loves to travel and meet new people; and meeting new people is exactly what GROW allows her to do. She loves volunteering with GROW events and helping in any capacity possible. Sylvia is looking towards more avenues to assist with the development of GROW and has been an active member ever since she joined, in February 2010. She values the friendships she has been able to develop through this program and cannot wait to make more. She believes that Tracy has the passion needed to skyrocket GROW to new heights and plans to be present for the entire ride.

Anita

Anita Pearson

Anita Pearson is originally from Arkansas but has been raised in Nashville, TN; during a chapter meeting with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Anita responded to Tracy's announcement for recruiting new members for her golf organization: GROW. Anita then joined GROW on a volunteer basis. She loves the game and loves assisting with GROW events. Over the course of three years that Anita has been involved with the organization, she chose to support a recent fashion show that she was able to participate in through modeling. She modeled in the categories of fitness, cocktail, golf, and GROW. Anita expressed her interest in seeing GROW collaborate with local tournaments to connect with other golf enthusiasts and spread the word about GROW to the Nashville community. Anita has consistently volunteered with the GROW Scramble and is excited about helping expand the game of golf through Tracy’s organization. Anita’s interests lie in reading, traveling, and shopping.

Latasha

LaTasha Thomas

Alabama is the hometown of LaTasha Thomas. Latasha currently serves as an attorney with the Department of Labor. She protects America’s workforce by dealing with employment violations regarding coal mine safety. She enjoys visiting historic court houses and golfing. The sport of golf has been a part of Latasha’s family for some time; her uncle hasbeen honored in the golf hall of fame at Alabama A&M University. In her family, you either learned how to fish, or you learned how to golf: Latasha learned both. In 2008, Latasha discovered GROW through a friend that works at The Business Journal; after receiving Tracy’s information, she became a member of GROW. Since 2008, the membership has increased and opportunities for golf lessons and member involvement have evolved. Latasha explained that Tracy’s dedication to GROW Girls has been phenomenal, and so has the years she has been a member of the GROW organization. Through GROW, Latasha has taken her golf game from nonexistent and has been able to improve it greatly.

Shermaine

Shermain Nettles

Shermaine Nettles is a senior at Tennessee State University studying Marketing and Psychology. She learned about GROW through an internship with the Tennessee Lottery Corporation. Shermaine is currently an intern at GROW. Even though she has recently joined, she has been thoroughly impressed with the passion for golf that the members possess and Tracy’s immaculate leadership skills. She hopes to begin golfing soon, and has an interest in joining the seasoned ladies in golf tournaments one day. Shermaine is ecstatic about becoming a part of the GROW family; and plans to use her love for writing and marketing to assist in GROW endeavors.
