"Peace Salaam Shalom" Colloquy

As we announced in our September enewsletter, our song, "Peace, Salaam, Shalom" was chosen for the new hymnal of a worldwide denomination. As abolitionists, this group had already begun to show their progressive nature 150 years ago when they split off from the Mormons. And Community of Christ has kept up with it, ever since, including ordaining women in 1984 and, this year, voting in full marriage equality rights and acceptance of LGBT clergy and members in their US, Australian, Canadian and British Isles sectors.

Out of the hymnal's 600+ songs, CofC selected "Peace, Salaam, Shalom" to be taught to its 250,000 members worldwide and has created "Peace Through All People", a stunningly beautiful and moving video of congregants and friends from Australia to Zambia singing "Peace, Salaam, Shalom".

Watch and share the video with your community.

The Peace Colloquy is Community of Christ's annual summit on social justice (prior year's themes included nuclear non-proliferation and next year's will be poverty). And this year, it was also the launch of the new hymnal. We were thrilled to have our song (and tee shirt) be a featured element of the hymnal and this year's Colloquy, where we presented two workshops and, together with fabulous keyboardist/accordionisto Gary Johnson and percussionista extraordinaire Robin Burdulis, put on a rockin' Saturday night concert!
