“The Jack Leathers Christmas Reunion”’ was held at the Round Hill Country Club in Alamo on Thursday, December 5th. The “Fabulous ‘Fifties Brothers” were again joined by the “Big Band Brothers,” together with several wives (and one sister). Unfortunately, Jack Leathers’ health was such that he was unable to attend the reunion luncheon named after him, but he sent his regards. Bob and Carol Leslie made the arrangements for the luncheon and Carol not only decorated the tables with “Cal” flowers, but provided the desert as well.
Shel Onstead entertained those present with his version of history relative to the Cal Beta “lions” and “dinner bell,” (all misappropriated property, according to Shel). Fortunately, several of the attorneys in the group assured him that if all of that had actually occurred, a California statute of limitations would protect him.
The highlight of the luncheon was the induction of Claude Rohwer into the Cal Beta Hall of Fame. Claude was the Chapter EA in 1955; First Vice-President of the ASUC; a graduate of Boalt Hall; an Air Force officer; a distinguished faculty member at the UOP McGeorge School of Law; and an international legal consultant. Claude was introduced by Bob Leslie, the President of the Board of the Housing Corporation and two of Claude’s former “little brothers” were also present.
The luncheon ended with the well-received announcement that next year’s reunion might be held at the Kingfish Bistro, in Oakland, if it is still standing and open.
