For seven years Diana Lorence and her husband Michael lived in a 12 x 12 foot house without electricity they built themselves hidden in the woods of California, in a world lit only by fire. Two years ago, Diana Lorence emerged from her seclusion with a single essay that has been read in a 150 countries. Lorence takes her theme from a chapter in Henry David Thoreau’s nature classic, “Walden”: “Where I Lived and What I Lived For.” Like Thoreau, to whom she is often compared, her life asks the question, How shall we live?
Diana Lorence will reflect on her simple, contemplative life at The Ojai Retreat from Friday Feb. 21 at 7 p.m., until Sunday Feb. 23 at 10 a.m.
Inspired by Innermost House, I am honored to host and facilitate this special event. I will introduce the weekend Friday evening and conclude it Sunday morning. Local and organic food will be provided throughout the weekend. The public is welcome to enjoy this opportunity to reflect through conversation and silence on the practical meaning of simplicity in our lives today.
