In conjunction with CINEMATIC, an exhibition exploring relationships between film and visual art, CUAC is pleased to hold “Film Screenings at CUAC,” an exhibition that features ten short experimental films by Also Sisters, Jan Andrews, and Matt Glass. Each program lasts between 25 and 35 minutes and is comprised of short films by each artist.

Also Sisters, Sonia and Miriam Sobrino, are a sister-team from Galicia, Spain who are currently finishing their masters degrees in film at the University of Utah. Their collaboration is in direction, cinematography, editing, production, and writing. CUAC will be exhibiting Executioner’s Vacation, Spanish Record Number 9, Dialelo, and Olláparo. Olláparo has been included in numerous film festivals and has received a Grand Jury Honorable Mention at the Utah Arts Festival and was nominated for “Best Experimental Film” at the Galician Academy Awards. They are beginning work on their first feature film this summer in Spain.

Jan Andrews is a Utah filmmaker whose experimental films have been exhibited in film festivals worldwide including Geography of the Imagination, which screened at the Sundance Film Festival. She has often exhibited alternately in traditional film venues as well as art galleries in Salt Lake City, New York City, and Los Angeles. CUAC will screen Geography of the Imagination, Seduction (her first film), and Dinner with Anna, a film featuring a well-known Utah actor Anna Louise. Each was originally shot on 16mm or 8mm film.

Matt Glass currently lives in Los Angeles where he is pursuing a career as a visual artist and helps to operate an artist-run gallery in Culver City called Pretty Gallery. He works both as a photographer, exploring cinema, and he makes short animated films often featuring puppets of his own creation. He attended Weber State for his BFA then Cranbrook for his MFA in photography. CUAC will screen Testeron, Citadel, and Blank Sign.
