Hi there! This week, I was sorry I'm not 10-13 because I could've been Laura Ingalls. (But maybe you know someone...) And then there's this story that had me bawling.

1. New Twitter features and how to create collages

Twitter is rolling out some new features (it's looking more and more like Facebook, no?). One is notifications. When you're logged in, you'll get real-time notifications when someone interacts with your tweets. Don't like it? No worries, you can change that in Settings. Another is the ability to create collages straight from your iPhone Twitter app. Things are about to get creative. What could you do?

2. How to be a more productive writer according to science

I used to get up super early, but as my kids have gotten older and go to bed later, I have too. But I'm rethinking it now because science suggests the best time to write is in the morning. But what if you're a night owl? That's fine too because the other tip, according to science, is to write at the same time every day. Or, you could just force your night owl self to be an early riser like Jon Acuff. Seems to be working for him quite well.

3. How to write like Hemingway

Speaking of writing, Ernest Hemingway had 4 rules for writing well. And now there's an app for that. The Hemingway app aims to improve your writing. Simply paste your text into the Write tab, hit Edit and it'll give you simple suggestions to make your passage better (hat tip: Netted). I'm no Hemingway, but I have some tips of my own.

4. How to improve your speaking, teaching & presentations

I mentioned previously that one of my personal goals is to improve my speaking. I tend to ramble and bounce all over the place (my mind always seems to be about 10 things ahead of my mouth). Anyway, Andrew Ng offers some great tips in his post Learn to Speak or Teach Better in 30 Minutes. The idea of choosing a 60-second portion and refining it is great. So much less overwhelming. Love it.

5. In case you missed it...

This week, I wrote How To Monetize Your Food (or Any) Blog in which I review an ebook by Kiersten Frase. She says a lot of bloggers leave a lot of money on the table because they don't have an ad waterfall. As a result of her waterfall, she's gone from earning just under $2 revenue per 1000 impressions to almost $20 revenue per 1000 impressions. Impressive. You can read my full review of her ebook here.
