Conceived in response to pronouncements of the daily newspaper’s demise as a tangible record of events, 'The Last Newspaper' will be a hybrid exhibition which investigates what is possibly lost and what might be gained in a world where an avalanche of interpretation compromises the increasingly vulnerable privileging of facts.
A tabloid, assembled and produced on site by Latitudes, will provide a regularly published record of the enterprise. 'The Last Post' (working title) will be produced during 10 weeks from a live 'editorial situation' in-house at the New Museum. 'The Last Post' will be a freely distributed ‘old-fashioned’ episodic print publication rethought in the light of the fundamental shifts taking place in news production and distribution, while exploring the shared behaviours of ‘the editorial’ and ‘the curatorial’. + info...

In response to Midway Contemporary Art Library’s holdings of museum catalogues and from publishing houses in Barcelona, Latitudes has assembled a counter-accession of around 40 self- and micro-published books and paper editions by artists. Each publication is the work of an artist, designer, curator, or publishing initiative based in Barcelona or Catalonia since 2005.
The publications will be displayed at Midway throughout October–November 2010 before being absorbed into the library holdings. In October Latitudes will present the selection and talk about their recent projects (date TBC).
Latitudes has been invited to join the 2010-12 Programming Committee of Hangar, the Barcelona visual arts production and residency centre. The Programming Committee is composed of 5 visual arts experts responsible for selecting resident artists, pre-selecting artists for overseas grants and selecting projects. The 2010-12 team is composed by artists Dora Garcia, Jordi Mitjà and Joan Vila-Puig and curators Àlex Mitrani and Latitudes.
"[...] In the past few years, freelancers have started to pool their resources during tough economic times. One of the participants at the Tate anniversary show was Latitudes, a Barcelona-based curatorial duo made up of Max Andrews and Mariana Cánepa. Their selected artist, Martí Anson, drove a car up from Spain and parked it in the Tate to double as a screening room for Latitudes’ projects. This autumn they will organize a show at The New Museum in New York about the decline of the newspaper."
Also this month, seven Spanish-based curators give share their reflections on starting out in the profession 'Palabra de Comisario' in El Cultural, 29 June by Bea Espejo – in Spanish.
