SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS ALLIANCE EVENTS

THE NEW GREEN GOLD: Zero Waste - Good for Sustainable Businesses, Good for Your Bottom Line Daniel Knapp, Ph.D & CEO, Urban Ore, Inc.
Where: StopWaste.Org Office, 1537 Webster Street, Oakland, CA 94612
When: April 13, 5:30 - 7:30 PM Price: $20

Dan Knapp is an inspiring business leader who started Urban Ore, a multi-million dollar business, after hitchhiking to Berkeley with $40 in 1979. A former college professor, he became a landfill scavenger to learn more about landfilling, which he saw as the root cause of unsustainable resource wasting. Thirty years later, Urban Ore has evolved into a very busy reuse and recycling company, open 10 hours per day, seven days a week, and employing 36 people at good wages.

In this presentation, Dr. Knapp will talk about what's in it for sustainable business as we progress from maximum wasting to maximum conservation and commercial reuse of refined resources. He will describe a cluster of materials recovery enterprises in Berkeley, and present architectural plans for converting the City's 10 acre discard management facility to best practices for zero waste.
