'The first people we approached to participate were Max Andrews and Mariana Canepa Luna, who are partners in Latitudes, a curatorial office based in Barcelona. They have a wonderful flexibility in their projects, which include overseeing public commissions, organizing conferences, as well as initiating multidisciplinary research and editorial programs. Our preliminary conversations led quickly to the notion of a weekly newspaper produced in the New Museum over the course of a residency. From this point, we moved pretty quickly into a landscape of organizational residencies that will animate the social aspects of the exhibition'. – Richard Flood, interview with Benjamin Godsill about the exhibition, fall 2010
'The Last Newspaper' will be a hybrid exhibition exploring of how artists approach the news and how information is produced, managed, recorded, re-ordered, and disseminated. Alongside the exhibition, a number of partner organisations will use on-site offices to present their research, stage public dialogues, opening up the galleries as spaces of intellectual production as well as display. 'THE LAST POST' / 'THE LAST GAZETTE' / 'THE LAST REGISTER'... will be an evolving-titled 12-page free weekly newspaper edited by Latitudes from a micro-newsroom on the third floor of the New Museum and disseminated exclusively on printed format and on a weekly basis for 10 weeks.
In part a programming and discussion space in itself, 'THE LAST POST'... will be an incremental exhibition catalogue companioning 'The Last Newspaper exhibition and events, and a critical reflection on news. It is being conceived by a specially-assembled editorial team and contributors who are giving their time and skills pro bono. The published record of the enterprise will be bound at the conclusion to form a surrogate catalogue. (+ info...)

The publications will be displayed at Midway's Library throughout October–November 2010 before being absorbed into the library holdings. Christina Hemauer and Roman Keller have investigated the concept of energy for several years. One of their main areas of interest is the history of oil and its competing alternatives, notably solar energy. Often involving historical research, remembrance, performance and film, their projects focus in particular on the politics of oil, energy crises, and the pursuit of new technology.
The exhibition will be the most comprehensive presentation of the duo's work to date. (+ info...)
Article by Carlo McCormick, PAPER magazine, October 2010
Profile in the October 2010 issue of New York-based PAPER magazine, a monthly publication focusing on fashion, pop-culture, nightlife, music, art and film.
"...Of their proposed weeky in-house 12-page newspaper for the New Museum, which will cumulatevely amount to the show publication of record, Latitudes tells us: "The question of 'How you get your information?' hangs all over it. We have always been interested in art's role in the organisation of information, images and data and how we process it and understand it. The role of media in forming an opinion and its role in a free society is formidable, though not always progressive.'
