Mayor Gavin Newsom, Bay Area Green Tours and JOBSNOW!

JobsNow (SF) and AC HIre (Alameda County) are programs of the national economic stimulus package that have provided the financial aid to help BAGT flourish. Before these programs we had one employee and didn't have access to sufficient capital to hire anyone else. While understaffed, BAGT was stagnating and not making sufficient progress.

This invaluable resource has provided BAGT with the momentum to grow, made a tremendous difference in lives of the newly hired, and is contributing to the growth of the local economy.

On July 22, our Executive Director, Marissa LaMagna was invited to San Francisco City Hall to speak to over a thousand people with the Mayor about extending the program for the next year.

The U.S. House will be voting in the next day or two on H.R. 4213, a bill that will create jobs and put people back to work. Please take action and voice your opinion on this important issue TODAY and call your representative to vote to pass this legislation.

The Jobs Bill will begin the process of making Wall Street finally pay to restore the millions of jobs the Big Banks and financial institutions destroyed with their reckless and risky practices. It closes a tax loophole that allows Wall Street hedge fund managers to pay lower tax rates on their income than ordinary wage earners.

BAGT hosts Beahrs Leadership Program from UC Berkeley

On June 30, we had the pleasure of hosting the Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program (ELP)from UC Berkeley at the David Brower Center. The program had over 40 environmental professionals and decision-makers from all over the globe.

We are grateful to the environmental leaders at the Brower Center who stepped up to share their knowledge and experience with these international leaders. The group also toured several of the East Bay's premier sustainable organizations and businesses, including the Richmond Solar Farm below.
