Platbos Forest is not only Africa’s southernmost wooded area but also a habitat filled with indigenous vegetation over 1000 years old. The forest is located on the slopes of the Baviaanspoort Hills and its existence on the unforgiving terrain still puzzles botanists today.
Over the last few decades, sections of this botanical mystery have been cleared for cultivation, paving the way for invasive species to enter. The Trees for Tomorrow programme at Platbos has been set up to address this and Greenpop supports the reforestation effort each year at the Reforest Fests.
