Both spring and fall are fragile seasons in terms of our health, according to Ayurveda. Unseasonably warm weather in the spring can leave us vulnerable to illness. But it's an unexpected cold day in the fall that can make us sick. Our bodies need time to adjust to the changing seasons and fluctuations in temperature. As we age it becomes even more important to pay attention to these changes because our bodies are not as adept at regulating temperature as they were in our youth.
So, just use your common sense and listen to your body. Don't put away the hats and sweaters too soon. And it's a good practice to always keep a scarf handy. Ayurveda teaches that the back of the neck is a vulnerable point of entry for wind entering the body. Avoid cold drinks and treats like ice cream when it's cold outside. Nurture your body and it will reward you with good health!
